What it is
Codex is OpenAI's software engineering agent. It works on your local files from the ChatGPT desktop app, the open-source Codex CLI and an IDE extension, and Codex Cloud runs tasks in their own cloud environments that keep going while your computer sleeps. Cloud features include automatic pull request review and a Slack integration, and you can follow tasks from the ChatGPT iOS app.
Codex comes with ChatGPT plans. Free and Go ($8 a month) include a smaller model in the desktop app, subject to rollout. Plus ($20 a month) adds the web, CLI, IDE extension, iOS and cloud integrations, and Pro plans start at $100. You can also sign in with an API key and pay API rates, but that mode has no cloud features.
