What it is
LanguageTool checks grammar, punctuation, spelling and style in more than 30 languages, and it can paraphrase sentences. It works in its web editor, as extensions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera, as add-ons for Gmail, Outlook, Google Docs, Word and LibreOffice, and in apps for macOS and Windows. Its core engine is open source under the LGPL, so you can run your own server.
It suits people who write in several languages, not only English. The free version checks shorter texts and catches basic errors; Premium checks much longer texts and adds thousands of extra style and grammar rules and unlimited paraphrasing. The self-hosted engine does not include Premium features.
