What it is
LlamaIndex now centers on LlamaParse, a commercial platform that parses complex documents, extracts fields into a schema, classifies and splits files, and builds indexes for retrieval. The company also maintains the MIT-licensed LlamaIndex framework for Python, Workflows for agent pipelines, and LiteParse, an open-source local parser. Its repository says the company's focus has moved to document parsing and extraction.
It suits developers whose AI apps depend on messy documents. LlamaParse runs on credits at $1.25 per 1,000: the Free plan includes 10,000 a month, and Starter costs $50 a month with 40,000. The open-source framework is free, but it is updated less often than before, so teams starting fresh on agents may prefer other frameworks.
